This project arose from an assignment to design a mobile app aimed at tracking and transforming an aspect of the user's life. As a national park enthusiast, I created an app that reflects my own interests and fills a gap I’ve noticed in the market. The app helps people plan and track trips, hikes, and other activities in National Parks. It also provides statistics on tracked activities and visited parks and locations. The search page allows users to explore national parks through a map, list, or search bar. Each park is represented by a unique icon that is displayed in color when visited by the user. The tracking page is shown when the user is actively recording an activity, displaying a trail map along with metrics such as duration, distance, and elevation gain. Users can expand this section to view estimated completion time, total distance, and an elevation graph for the activity. When the activity is completed, users can view it on the activity page, which also includes an expandable section with detailed metrics. The profile page includes insights into activity and location statistics, which would be used to create personalized recommendations for future activities.
Icons and Process
As a part of this project, I created icons to represent each national park in both color and grayscale versions to visually represent when a park has been visited by the user. Also displayed below are some sketches and wireframes from the early parts of the process.
